In the fourth attack in four months, two Guajajara indigenous people were shot in the head in Maranhão. Both were in serious condition and in intensive care. The region is marked by conflicts involving the invasion of TI Arariboia by loggers, hunters and traffickers. Data from the Socio-Environmental Institute (ISA) shows that from September 2018 to October 2019, 1,248 branches were opened for illegal logging within the territory.

On 3 September 2022, Janildo Oliveira Guajajarawas shot dead in an attack that also injured a 14-year-old teenager. On the same day, Jael Carlos Miranda Guajajara was hit by a car. On 11 September, Antônio Cafeteiro Sousa Silva Guajajara was shot six times on the road that leads to the village of Jiboia, which is close to the boundaries of the Arariboia Indigenous Land.
