In the fourth attack in four months, two Guajajara indigenous people were shot in the head in Maranhão. Benedito Guajajara, 18, and Júnior Guajajara, 16, were attacked by a black car at around five in the morning as they walked along the MA-006 motorway in the town of Santa Luzia. Both were in serious condition and in intensive care. The region is marked by conflicts involving the invasion of TI Arariboia by loggers, hunters and traffickers. Data from the Socio-Environmental Institute (ISA) shows that from September 2018 to October 2019, 1,248 branches were opened for illegal logging within the territory.
