"Help Us Hold Wanbao Mining Accountable", 10 Aug 2015

Floods have devastated many parts of Burma, including the villages surrounding the Letpadaung copper mine.  Recently, the mining company dug dirt embankments to protect its mine from floodwaters but, in the process, worsened the effects of the flood for the surrounding villages. Seven villagers have been temporarily detained by Burmese police after confronting a mining company truck about this flooding...Today we pressure Wanbao Mining to provide as much aid as possible to the villages affected by the flood, open a dialogue to address outstanding concerns of the villagers, and suspend its mining operations in Burma until it can demonstrate that it operates with the clear consent of the communities neighboring the mines.
