Internet shutdowns increase globally in 2021, finds Access Now and #KeepItOn Coalition report

Access Now

The 2021 edition of the Internet shutdowns report by Access Now and the #KeepItOn Coalition documented 182 internet shutdowns across 34 countries showing an increment of incidents as compared to 2020.

According to the report in 2021 governments imposed prolonged and increasingly targeted internet shutdowns, serving to mantle human rights abuses during crises, including war crimes and acts of genocide.

The report also names specific incidents of network disruptions [and censorship] involving companies. Therefore the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited ETECSA to respond to the allegation contained in the report. The company did not respond.
