ACT members arrested by North Sikkim Police [India]

Forty-one members of the Affected Citizens of Teesta (ACT) from Dzongu were arrested by the North Sikkim Police on Sunday on charges of arson and rioting at the project dam site of the controversial Panan hydel power project...The arrests were made on the complaint of Himagiri Hydro Energy Private Ltd, project developers of the 280 MW Panan hydel project...ACT members have accused the project developers of engaging in illegal works after the land acquisition terms have lapsed...The group...has condemned the ‘arbitrary arrests of innocent Lepchas from Dzongu’ and accused the police of resorting to third degree interrogation methods.
