Geoffrey Otieno is a Kenyan researcher working with Equidem, a leading labour and human rights organisation. Until July 2022, he was a migrant worker in Qatar investigating human rights abuses in the Gulf region. In August 2022, he was arrested at night for trying to organize other migrant workers and rescue others from exploitative employers. Geoffrey was held incommunicado at a deportation center for 8 days, and only after three days of hunger strike, he was eventually deported to Kenya. However, thousands of other migrant workers remain in indefinite detention waiting for deportation.
