Ghana: NGO publishes report on human rights abuses aboard Chinese-owned trawl vessels

"Fear, Hunger and Violence: Human Rights in Ghana's Industrial Trawl Fleet", 26 October 2020

This report, published by the UK-based Environmental Justice Foundation, takes a detailed look at human rights and labour issues in Ghana’s industrial fishing sector. Through interviews with crew members and fisheries observers working on board these vessels, the report sheds light on exploitative and abusive practices in the fleet. The report analyses these findings against international human rights and labour standards and considers Ghana’s obligations under national and international law to protect the human rights of workers and remedy infringements.
