Dairy communities from North Sumatra filed another lawsuit against the Environmental Ministry at the Jakarta administrative court for re-issuing PT Dairi Prima Mineral's environmental permit for its zinc and tin mining[...]
[...] The decision from the Environmental Ministry is seen as contradictory with 2024 Supreme Court's decision, which revoked PT Dairi Prima Mineral's permit.
[...] the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the new permit allegedly did not follow a meaningful participatory approach for local communities.
The plaintiffs raised three essential objections. First, the new permit was based on the waste management plan, which will cover all the holes with cemented paste backfill method [...] which was not supported by any scientific evidence.
Second, the new permit ignores the Spatial Plan, according to the Supreme Court, which banned any mining activities in the area due to its disaster-prone status.
