Myanmar: Complaints for violations of OECD Guidelines submitted against investment giants alleging that indices include cos. with link to Myanmar military

The Inclusive Development International, Blood Money Campaign Myanmar (BMC), and Alternative ASEAN Network on Burma (ALTSEAN-Burma) submitted complaints against indexes MSCI, FTSE Russell, and S&P Dow Jones Indices for alleged violation of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct. According to the complaints, the companies are providers of indexes for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)-focused investing. However, the indices allegedly include companies that are linked to human rights abuses due to ties with the Myanmar military.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited the companies to respond to the allegations. MSCI and FTSE Russell responded (linked below); S&P Dow Jones Indices did not.
