Recognizing that a living wage is a wage that meets the basic needs of workers and their families, including food, housing, clothing and other expenses, such as education, health care, and some discretionary income...[W]e, a coalition of governments, international organizations, frontrunner companies, business associations, trade unions, non-governmental organizations and multi-stakeholder supply chain initiatives, declare that we jointly want to drive the cause of living wages forward and bring our efforts to the next level by taking our individual responsibilities, and together a shared responsibility. Sourcing companies, working together with their business partners and other important local stakeholders in developing countries, will respect, promote and co-create conditions which will allow the provision of best possible wages, benefits and conditions of work which are at least adequate to satisfy basic needs of the workers and their families. We hereby declare that we intend to actively participate in multi-stakeholder and other processes to work towards living wages, freedom of association, and collective bargaining; share experiences and lessons learnt; share our efforts in this field publicly for monitoring purposes; and coordinate these activities with other stakeholders to create leverage.
