BerryMex's response to accusations of failing to monitor the transportation of Grupo RUZA

...Eight days after the unfortunate accident in Tuxcueca, Jalisco, at BerryMex we have been following the situation of the relatives who lost their lives, the recovery of those injured in this situation and the accompaniment of their families. In line with the official position... the company has followed up on all the corresponding procedures with the families, in coordination with the company that provided the transport service.

From the first moment we learned of this unfortunate situation, we got in touch and have been following up on the requirements and requests of the families. At this moment, we are with them as a company and we will continue to provide all the support we can, and I would even like to share with you how we have focused our efforts in support of our injured colleagues and their families:

  • Through our volunteer colleagues from different areas of the company, we have given support with accompanying guards to the families in the hospitals.
  • We launched a call for those who wanted to donate blood, which had a very good response.
  • We have been very attentive to ensure that the families of the injured receive support with their transfer to Guadalajara, food and accommodation.
  • Our Human Resources team has provided follow-up and support to the families and communities of the deceased colleagues, facilitating transfers to and from their communities of origin, and covering funeral expenses.
  • From the beginning, we have provided psychological counselling to family members and colleagues through Orienta PAE.

At BerryMex we constantly evaluate the services of our transport providers, including Grupo RUZA, and periodically review incident and maintenance logs. These evaluations and reviews do not confirm any of the claims made in the media, nor did a subsequent review by state authorities. All workers affected by the unfortunate accident are entitled to statutory benefits, including widow's, orphan's and disability pensions, as well as additional benefits and insurance provided by the company under the collective bargaining agreement, which we are in the process of delivering in coordination with the union...
