The Omnibus Law on Job Creation, which was passed by the parliament on 5 October 2020 and ratified by President Jokowi on 2 November 2020, has sparked a big wave of protests and workers' strikes in various regions in Indonesia. Erosion of workers' rights, inclusion of patriarchal provisions that reduce the rights of women workers, and degradation of the right to participate in environmental decision-making process and access to information are among the key concerns raised by civil society, trade unions and other members of society. As the struggle continues, this series acts as a counter-balance to the prevailing narrative that the Omnibus Law on Job Creation will encourage economic growth and create equitable prosperity for the people. The Resource Centre is proud to provide a platform for Indonesian civil society to give their perspective, outlining their concerns with the new legislation and detailing how it undermines human rights and environmental protection.
