India: Union celebrates 'victory' after factory management agrees to pay garment workers' VDA payments & arrears

1. In a major relief and victory for garment workers in Karnataka, factory mgmts have agreed to pay increased dearness allowance and arrears for the last 22 months! Gokaldas Exports was one of the fiest companies to pay the arrears! Watch a worker talk about this below.

2. Kar state govt had ordered a freeze on the VDA payments from Apr 1, 2020. The High Court had stayed the order but mgmts refused to pay citing pandemic losses. But following sustained pressure by GATWU on mgmts and intl brands, VDA has been restored.
