Avon's response

3 December 2020

Aligned with the RSPO, we entirely condemn the issues alleged in the recent AP article. Such practices are completely and categorically banned under RSPO certification standards to which we commit. Without additional details, which so far, the AP or another party have yet to provide, we are unable to verify where the alleged incidents have taken place and if the mills in question are currently involved in Avon’s supply chain. We take extremely seriously any suggested infringement of human rights violation and will investigate any reported incident.

Maintaining a high level of ethical conduct and integrity is of critical importance to us. We strive to high standards of transparency in our supply chain and the health and safety of everyone who works through our supply chain. To this end, we are active members of RSPO, we are part of SEDEX the global ethical trade and last year we enhanced our supplier code of conduct to include greater commitment to women’s rights. Avon is committed to helping to create a better world for women and as part of the Natura and Co group we’re committed to intolerance to human rights infringement in our supply chain.

Going forward, as part of Natura & Co, we have renewed and strengthened our commitment to responsible sourcing, including for palm and have specifically committed to ensuring full traceability and/or certification for critical ingredient supply chains which includes palm oil and derivatives. Supporting these commitments we’ll be maintaining active engagement with RSPO on key issues - women’s rights is a priority given our broader focus on supporting the issues that matter to women.
