The workers of Myanmar Tiannan Garment Co., Ltd., which manufactures international brands such as FSBN, USA, and BLACK SQUAD…are facing difficulties because they are illegally firing workers if they do not meet their [targets].

According to the workers, at the garment factory owned by Chinese nationals, which has been opened in Thadhukan Industrial Zone, Shwe Pytha Township, Yangon Region, and operates with more than 600 workers, the workers are losing their legal rights and are being fired illegally.

It is reported that there is no trade union in the workplace.

The factory is said to be sewing sportswear and started operating in June 2022.

Currently, workers do not receive leave entitlements such as casual leave and medical leave, and if they take casual leave, [their wages] are cut…If they miss a day of work, they will be cut a total of 14,800 kyats, including 4,800 kyats of holiday pay and 10,000 kyats of regular wages.

Also, if you miss a day off due to illness, you are told that your pay for Sunday will be deducted.

… the workers say that they are forced to quit their jobs if they are not able to meet the [targets].

"… Line super[visor] also lowers their wages because they can't reach the [target]. If they don't get it, they threaten to cut it again," said a worker who did not want to be named.

In October 2022, it was reported that more than 30 workers were illegally fired from a line that failed to meet standards.

It is said that day laborers are forced to work in the factory, and they are forced to work at 500 kyat per hour from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.

"If they don't want people, they fire them right away. They don't have an EC contract, so…they force them to sign a blank sign..” said a worker…
