Recently, a signed complaint letter has been circulating online. A female employee identifying herself as a Chery Commercial Vehicle staff member reported being harassed by Jiang, the general manager of the business division. “During my more than six months at the company, I have been subjected to verbal abuse and workplace sexual harassment by my supervisor, causing me severe anxiety and insomnia, and leaving me too afraid to go to work.”

The complaint alleges that the manager repeatedly sent explicit messages to the female employee, made frequent late-night phone calls, and engaged in physical contact—such as pinching her ears, touching her face, and holding her hands—after locking the office door. The complaint described “Jiang” as a “local tyrant,” threatening employees with denial of permanent employment status or dismissal if they refused to comply, and demanding personal services from subordinates, including cleaning cups with a toothbrush, peeling fruit, retrieving packages, and even installing a “Bluetooth bell” (resembling a dog bell) to summon employees. The whistleblower stated that she has been suffering from severe anxiety and insomnia and was forced to take a leave of absence or resign. (...)

On April 1, Chery Commercial Vehicle released an official statement on its official Weibo account, stating that a female employee had filed a real-name report alleging workplace sexual harassment by a certain manager. Upon receiving the report, the company took the matter very seriously, immediately established a special investigation team, swiftly initiated internal investigation procedures, and, after verifying the facts, dismissed the manager in question in accordance with regulations on the afternoon of March 31 and decided to terminate their employment contract. The company will continue to follow up on subsequent proceedings in accordance with laws and regulations and will not tolerate such behavior. The statement was signed by “Chery Commercial Vehicles (Anhui) Co., Ltd.”
