Following a release of a documentary called "The Shadow of a Predator" aired by BBC, SMILE-UP. protested to the BBC claiming that the parts of the interview footage of SMILE-UP. president Higashiyama Noriyuki's remarks about online the victim were different from the actual meaning of Higashiyama's remarks. SMILE-UP. sent a letter of protest demanding a correction and apology.
