Cambodia: One woman worker dies in fire at Yi Da factory after explosion

A fire broke out around 6am at the Yi Da Manufacturer Company’s factory located in Russey Srok village, Chheu Teal commune, Kien Svay district in Kandal province ...

The fire caused the death of a woman known as Sok Chhorvy living in Chheu Teal II village in Kien Svay district.

According to Kandal provincial police, the fire started in the laundry and dyeing area and quickly spread to other parts of the factory.

The fire was caused by explosion from chemicals and dyes used in the company’s manufacturing process, according to a Kandal police spokesman.

To quell the blaze, 15 firetrucks were deployed and by 9.50 am the fire was finally brought under control.

According to the report of the Chheu Teal commune police, beside the tragic death of a woman, the fire also damaged the building, along with the equipment inside, and four firefighters were overcome by the smoke. They were immediately transferred to Chey Chom Neah Hospital in Takhmao city for treatment…

The Textile, Apparel, Footwear and Travel Goods Association in Cambodia (TAFTAC), issued a letter expressing their sympathy to Yi Da Manufacturer Company over the damaged caused by the fire to the factory and expressed condolence to Chhorvy’s family.
