For 20 years, there have been numerous reports of serious human rights abuses associated with the Cerrejón Coal mine, the largest open-pit coal mine in South America. Despite alleged violations of rights to housing, access to water, and a safe and healthy environment, none of the three parent companies (BHP, Anglo American and Glencore) have been meaningfully held accountable, thus fuelling a sentiment of corporate impunity for the affected communities.
