In 2002, a group of South Africans sued 20 banks and corporations that did business in South Africa during apartheid in US federal court. Plaintiffs allege that the defendant's participation in key industries encouraged and furthered abuses against black Africans during Apartheid. The court dismissed the suit, citing lack of sufficient connection with the US. Plaintiffs reached a settlement with General Motors, one of the defendant corporations.
