China: At least 17 people killed and hundreds injured in two major accidents at chemical plants within a week

On 19 July 2019, an explosion at a gas plant, owned by Henan Coal Gas Group, in Henan left at least 15 dead and hundred injured. State media reported that the explosion shattered windows a few kilometres away and knocked off doors inside buildings. Hundreds of local residents were said to be injured by flying glass and other debris. 

On 24 July 2019, a few days after the gas plant explosion in Henan, a fire broke out inside the Huludao Tianqi Shengye Chemical plant in Liaoning and killed two people. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
