The events on the Morona River were a result of internal issues within the Oshdem federation and its communities. Our understanding is the blockade was driven by Oshdem's request for more support from the government and the opposition of some of the communities of this federation to Talisman activity. During discussions in Shinguito, local leaders told us that they were seeing increased river traffic, and despite the 2008 Good Neighbour Agreement, they felt they should be compensated as a result. We explained that the purpose of the multi-federation meetings was to ensure the broad distribution of community benefits beyond those adjacent to our drilling areas...In some news coverage on the Morona River events, it has been mentioned that the Pastaza River Wetland Complex is located on Talisman’s Block 64 and that company’s operations will affect watersheds and fishing activities in this wetland area. We would like to make clarifications around this statement:- A significant area of the Pastaza River Wetland Complex is within the limits of Talisman Peru’s Block 101 and not Block 64.
