Malaysia: New documentary tells stories of indigenous peoples displaced by Bakun & Murum dams in Sarawak

The video documentary "Broken Promises: Displaced by Dams" (released by the Borneo Project in July 2015) reports the displacement of indigenous communities in Sarawak for the construction of the Bakun and Murum dams, their loss of livelihood, access to water, the inability to send children to school. Representatives of indigenous communities and NGOs interviews for the documentary also allege that the companies have not complied with the promises they made to provide adequate compensation. We invited Sarawak Energy to respond. The company said that they do not intend to respond directly to the video content, but instead they shared the progress of the communities resettled by the Murum dam.
