Mozambique: Portuguese Company Fined for Violating Labour Law

The Portuguese building company Tamega, after paying a heavy fine for several violations of Mozambican labour legislation, has promised Labour minister Helena Taipo that it will clean up its act. According to a Labour Ministry press release, Taipo met with the Tamega management on Friday, and received a promise from company director Antonio Teixeira Jose de Sousa that the management will correct all the anomalies detected...Tamega's Mozambican workforce had denounced racism and discrimination by the Portuguese managers. When the General Labour Inspectorate investigated, it found that the workers' protests were well founded.
