Oil company accused of 'nobbling' witnesses in African toxic waste case [UK]

British lawyers for 31,000 Africans allegedly injured by toxic waste dumped by an oil company…alleged that Trafigura, a London-based multi-national, had been trying - and in one case apparently succeeded - to persuade witnesses to change their statements. In a sworn affidavit to the High Court, one of the African witnesses…claimed that he was taken business class by Trafigura to Morocco where he was put up in the Sheraton Hotel and met for two days with Trafigura executives…Trafigura admit contact with some claimants but argued that in certain exceptional circumstances that was permitted…Yesterday Mr Justice Jack granted the temporary injunction pending a full hearing on April 3.
