Philippines exits the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative citing 'subjective, biased and unfair' assessment

Philippines' finance secretary Carlos Dominguez III announced the country's exit from the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), citing the latter’s “subjective, biased and unfair” assessment process. In February, the Philippines received a moderate overall score from the EITI. Among other concerns, the EITI pointed to “government constraints on freedom of expression, operation, and association in the EITI process”.
