Romanian nightclubs admit safety failures after Bucharest fire

Owners of Colectiv club questioned over deadly fire on suspicion of manslaughter and causing involuntary bodily harm...Three Romanian nightclubs acknowledged...that they had been reckless and failed to respect safety standards, following a fire at a Bucharest venue in which at least 31 people died. The fire engulfed the basement club Colectiv during a concert...Witnesses say a spark from a pyrotechnics show set fire to foam decor, causing panic as people rushed towards the venue’s single exit. Of the 180 people injured, 90 remain in a serious condition in hospital, and authorities predict the death toll could rise significantly. Other clubs promised to close or improve safety.
