Vedanta Aluminium to shut down Orissa refinery plant [India]

Vedanta Aluminium...served a three-month notice on Orissa government for shutting down its Lanjigarh alumina refinery due to acute shortage of bauxite. Vedanta Aluminium president Mukesh Kumar told The Indian Express that he served the mandatory notice on state labour department under the Industrial Disputes Act. “We just have no inventory left. We will manage to run the plant for next 3 months with whatever bauxite we would get from our suppliers. We need 10,000 tonnes of bauxite every day and we are getting anything between 4,000-7,000 tonnes a day. This is unsustainable,” he said. “But this is a temporary shutdown. If we get assured supply then we would resume operation.”
