Women are still paid 84 per cent of male wages in most industries, more than 30 years after it became illegal to pay them less than men. Not only are women more likely to be in low-paying part-time jobs, Australian women also suffer a higher unemployment rates and are the first to lose their jobs when the economy hits tough times.
