China National Textile and Apparel Council publishes statement on Xinjiang forced labour allegations

"Western companies suspected of violating human rights in Xinjiang in the name of ‘supply chain compliance’", 25 March 2021

Some foreign brands are suspected of violating human rights in China’s Xinjiang by excluding Xinjiang cotton and its products from their supply chains in the name of so-called supply chain compliance, China’s leading industry representative group said on Friday, urging them to stop the erroneous practice.

Such wrongful acts jeopardize the legitimate rights and interests of cotton growers and workers in the textile and garment industry from all ethnic groups in Xinjiang to get paid for their work and improve their living standards, China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) said in a statement sent to the Global Times on Friday.

The statement was made against the backdrop of the malicious move by some foreign brands refusing to source cotton from Xinjiang based on their hyped-up "forced labor" illusion. [...]

In a suicidal move that also infuriated Chinese consumers, Nike and H&M released statements not to source Xinjiang cotton, which immediately caused Chinese people to boycott H&M, Nike and other Western brands in the world's largest fashion market. [...]
